Luxor Day Trip from Cairo
Fly early morning from Cairo and enjoy a day trip to Luxor. Cross the Nile to the west bank to visit the Valley of the Kings where we visit colorful tombs carved out of rocky cliffs to safeguard the mummies and rich furnishings from grave robbers. Our next stop will be Queen Hatshipsut’s temple. Wanting to honor her father (god Amun), she asked her architect not to spare any effort in making this the best of its kind. Visit Memnon Colossi on the way back to the East Bank.
Visit Karnack temple, it is a group of temples surrounded by one enclosure wall that is dedicated to the god Amon-Ra. The temple covers an area of about 60 acres. The key difference between Karnack and most of the other temples is the length of time over which it was built. Approximately 30 pharaohs contributed to the buildings. In addition to the main sanctuary, there are several smaller temples and a vast sacred lake, which was used for purification.
Luxor temple was completely buried in sand for many centuries which allowed it to be one of the most preserved temples. The temple has many beautifully decorated columns, a huge open court, a massive façade representing its entrance, a huge pylon, and two seated statues of Ramses II. Originally two large obelisks stood in front of the pylon. However, only one remains now, while the other stands in Place de la Concorde, Paris.
Fly to Cairo at night and transfer back to the hotel.

Abydos & Dendara
Visit two of Egypt’s most unique and mysterious temples. Abydos, the pilgrim site in ancient Egypt, and Dendara temple with its unbelievably colorful ceilings.
Myths and Monuments: Journey to Abydos and Dendera Temples
The temple of Abydos was founded by Seti I in honor of the ancestral kings and it was finished by Ramses II. Built of fine limestone, the temple has many unique features such as the Osirion as well as lots of amazing colors which are still on its walls today. The temple became a great pilgrimage center in ancient times. In a famous myth, Osiris, the god of fertility was killed by his brother Set who cut Osiris' body into 14 pieces and spread it throughout Egypt. Isis, Osiris’ sister and wife found his scattered body parts and brought him back to life. Horus, Osiris’ son later killed his uncle Set and became the new king of Egypt.
The temple of Dendara is dedicated to Hathor, the mother of the gods, the celestial cow who brought them into the world, the lady of joy, beauty, and love. On one of the chapels’ ceilings, there are amazing astronomical scenes of Goddess Nut, the goddess of the sky. She arches her body over Earth and the sun disc, shining on the temple and the mask of Hathor. In another chapel, we will find a perfect representation of the zodiac signs and scenes of Osiris rising from the dead and becoming the god of the underworld. One of the most interesting scenes is that of Horus and Thoth pouring drops of holy water over the King. This scene is called the baptism scene which symbolizes life and happiness. The temple is renowned for its horoscope inscriptions.

Ramesseum, Habu & Workers'Tombs
The Ramesseum, a fabulous mortuary temple built by Ramses II on the site of Seti I’s ruined temple.
Wonders of Ramesseum, Medinet Habu, and Deir el-Medina
The Ramesseum, is a fabulous mortuary temple built by Ramses II on the site of Seti I's ruined temple. This great temple reportedly rivaled the temple at Abu Simbel and is very similar to Ramses III's mortuary temple at Medinet Habu. The temple was built too close to the Nile and the floods destroyed most of the temple. It was described by Diodorus as the 'tomb of Ozymandia' which inspired a verse by the great poet, Percy Bysshe Shelley.
Habu temple is the Mortuary temple of Ramses III, a huge temple complex, second to Karnack in size and better preserved. The mortuary temples were built to honor the memory of its kings and to host the cults that connected them to the gods. The site of the temple was sacred before Ramses III, Hatshepsut and Tuthmosis III built a temple dedicated to Amun. During the Libyan invasions of the late Twentieth Dynasty, Medinet Habu sheltered the entire population of Thebes. The temple protected the Copts as well. A Christian church filled the Second Court of the temple.
Deir el-Medina was home to the workmen responsible for constructing the royal tombs in the Valley of the Kings. Workers were employed as stone cutters, plasterers, painters, and others involved in preparing the tombs. The tombs hidden within the cliffs are the workers’ tombs and they include some of the finest decorated private tombs. The tombs of Sennedjem, Inherkau, and Peshedu are perfect examples of those tombs. Egyptologists continue to reconstruct the daily lives of these workers by using the papyri and pottery found during excavations.
